Well, it's been a long time since I've posted anything, but I decided to re-activate this blog--even though the whole blog frenzy thing is pretty nauseating. I'll now add some knitting obsessional stuff to the stew of things.
Such as this, a scarf I just finished. It's Shape It from Sally Melville's book--I think it's Knit Stitch. I wanted to make a light summer scarf for my mom who lives in Houston--it's made of re-cycled cotton and nylon yarn from an ugly thrift shop sweater--I have enough yarn for another one--the yarn is hard to keep smooth and nice, but I kind of like that gnarly look. I added some Crystal palace Squiggle for fun--but i think I'll take it off as it's a little costumey looking.

Has anyone seen this? I watched it last night on TCM--sorry but it's not running again in Oct., but look out for it.
I'm not a big Glenn Ford fan, but do like him in this--he's not smug the way he often seems--he's weary and disoriented, and making VERY BAD choices because he's married to Elke Sommer. He drives one of those big aircraft carrier convertibles that I love, and his partner is Ricardo Montalban. Joseph Cotton is a crook doctor and the best of all--Rita Hayworth looking puffy and shopworn plays the criminal ex-girlfriend. She is magnificent.

Here's the weblog of an Iraqi guy in Baghdad--will be worth checking in on him to see what's happening there.

Noam Chomsky: The case against U.S. adventurism in Iraq
A cogent description by Chomsky of both Bush's reasons and goals for an attack on Iraq and why this is wrong politically and morally.
It seems a done deal, now, but I don't want this blood on my hands--and it is on my hands, all of our hands--even if we get into our cars and drive away, we can't drive away from responsibility.
What to do?

Thirteen/WNET - Online Pressroom
Domestic Violence by Frederick Wiseman on PBS Tonight.
Frederick Wiseman is a long time idol of mine--he has been making straightforward, un-narrated cinema verite docs for almost 40 years.
PBS has been his funding for all those years and is running Domestic Violence tonight and tomorrow night (on my affiliate, anyway).
His docs can seem a little like watching paint dry, but their power is in the cumulative effect of what you learn about the subjects--you're watching in kind of a daze produced by overload and then whammo--OK I get it.

CBS News | Sad Day In The Neighborhood | February 27, 2003 09:34:51
It truly is a sad day in the neighborhood because Mr. Rogers is dead.
My daughter called me up to tell me he had died--it's so weird--I don't usually have the TV on during the day, but yesterday I was flipping and came upon Mr. R.--he was changing out of his sweater and getting ready to leave--and I watched him with such pleasure.
He was such a good man--and he helped kids feel good about themselves--he liked us all the way we are.

Here's a listings grid for tonight's movies. Since I get no trick-or-treaters, my Halloween is usually spent eating all the Halloween candy and watching scary movies on tv. This year there are way too many of the really gory slasher type films--not my cup of tea. But there is something for everyone tonight:
Arty types can watch Kill by Inches,
Spiral and Ghost Actress on Sundance Channel.
Film historians have a treat on TCM with London After Midnight,
Mark of the Vampire, and Vampyr: Der Traum des Allan Grey,
For feminists (or male chauvinists) The Stepford Wives on WE.
